Fang Fiction Competition

Hello everyone,

Recently I took part in Chuck Wendig’s flash fiction writing exercise, and what fun it was! I’m also reading his novel Double Dead, which is a stunning reinvention of the vampire and zombie genres (at the same time); you should definitely check it out.

So, I’m feeling pretty inspired, and I’m sure many of you are too. With that in mind I’m going to be hosting my own flash fiction competition with the theme of fangs!

I was going to make the competition about vampires specifically, and while you are more than welcome to write a Dracula/Nosferatu-inspired piece, I’m also expecting some new crazy creations and creatures. So long as there are fangs, the story goes! The stories don’t have to be Horror, but obviously I’m looking for a story that will put those fangs to good use.

What’s in it for you, you might ask? Firstly, writing exercises are a great way to flex your literary muscles and try something new without having to commit to too much in terms of word count. Secondly, there will be a prize for the winning story (the story which entertains me most and makes best use of the theme).

The winner will receive:

a) publication on my website so everyone can admire the story

b) a copy of the special, highly beautiful hardback edition of Seven Dark Stars: Blackness Absolute delivered to their door!

Count: 800 words max

Looking for: any piece with fangs as a theme that isn’t erotica or reminiscent of Twlight. Your story can have sex in it, sure, but please no porn.

Deadline: The deadline for submissions is the 26th September, please get your submissions in before that. The winner will be announced shortly after.
